Get to know Peterborough physiotherapy clinic manager David Friesen. I am on a mission to spotlight our clinicians in 1-on-1 interviews that aim to help you get to know them a bit more on a personal level. In these candid discussions, we talk childhood injuries, childhood dreams, education, career paths, parenthood, and even some fun rapid-fire style questions.

At Propel Physiotherapy, we strive to build meaningful connections with all of our clients. One of the parts of this job that many of us find the most rewarding is seeing that connection open people up to reaching for their goals and achieving them.

Whether your time with us is just a couple of sessions or a lifelong journey, we want to get to know you by being fully present in every interaction and listening actively. We also know that it is equally important for you to get to know us so that you can trust us to provide the highest quality of care.

Before you come for your first session with one of our therapists, we hope that you have checked out our bios on the company website, read a few reviews online, or that you have been referred by a trusted friend or health professional. You can also see what we are up to in and out of the clinic on our socials regularly. Plus, we are always looking for new ways to engage and interact with you.

That’s why I’m so excited for you to listen to this first episode, where I chatted with David Friesen — registered physiotherapist and our Peterborough mobile clinic manager. What’s great about David is that he has a real gift for connecting with his clients in a way that encourages them to push themselves to a new level or to try new activities that might be out of their comfort zone.

In this interview, David Friesen answered a few of my questions about his career path and his move to Peterborough, like:

  • What attracted you to physiotherapy as a career?
  • What has changed across your course of practice in the 10 years since you started working in this profession?
  • What has the transition from Toronto to Peterborough been like personally and professionally?
  • What tips can you share about in-home physiotherapy that maybe isn’t so obvious to therapists who haven’t done it or haven’t done a lot of it?

Plus, David shares how the MacWheeler’s program, a program that helps individuals that are using wheelchairs to exercise in a supportive space, set him on the path to helping people with neurological injuries and conditions.

Here’s a glance at this episode…

  • [1:00] I definitely had a love for sports and interest in science and healthcare when I was first trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life.
  • [3:04] I got really interested in neurological rehab, working with elderly clients and working with clients after more complex injuries.
  • [4:42] I went from in-clinic [physiotherapy] and doing a little bit of in-home physiotherapy to 100% in-home physiotherapy. So going into people’s houses, seeing them in the communities, in the gym, in pool anywhere and everywhere around Peterborough.
  • [6:42] Using what a client has in their home is super beneficial because it is their home environment, right? It is what they’re living with every single day.
  • [9:14] We’re going to use what’s in your home to do our physiotherapy sessions…you don’t need anything fancy. You don’t need a perfect setup for me to come in.
