TYPES OF BRAIN INJURY
Brain injuries can be divided into both traumatic and non-traumatic and both having lifelong, lasting effects. An example of a non-traumatic brain injury would be a stroke or brain tumour. Traumatic brain injuries can happen in situations such as car accidents, sports, falls and violence.
Survivors of traumatic brain injury (TBI) have various problems in daily life that affect almost every sphere of life; and are at higher risk for conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
TBI results in impairments of neurological, cognitive and physical functions leading to activity restrictions and lack of participation in all aspects of society.
TREATING BRAIN INJURIES
Acquired brain injuries currently impact about 1.5 million Canadians, and every year another 160,000 people experience an acquired brain injury, according to Brain Injury Canada. These rates continue to rise as more Canadians are experiencing and reporting incidents of ABI.
We have built our practice around the treatment of complex neurological injuries such as traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury. Our skilled professionals have training and experience working with those who have suffered a brain injury and addressing the chronic conditions and complications that follow.
BRAIN INJURY REHAB CLINIC
Our intake process includes a comprehensive assessment of physical impairments, current function and goals. We also use cutting-edge technology such as the Brainfx screen and Brainfx 360 to screen cognitive function and determine the most appropriate structure of the rehabilitation program to best meet each client’s needs.
At Propel, a team of skilled professionals trained in physiotherapy, kinesiology, massage therapy, exercise physiology, mindfulness, and yoga therapy will address your range of needs after brain injury.
We also have access to devices and technology that was created specifically to address the needs of people living with brain injuries – Keeogo™ robotic-assisted walking device, Odstock foot drop stimulator, NuStep recumbent cross trainer, Litegait® body weight support system, Jogohealth EMG biofeedback device, Brainfx neurofunctional screen.

After a traumatic injury I was referred to Amanda at Propel for physiotherapy. Amanda is amazing and I attribute the progress I have made thus far to her. Through her I’ve also been referred to other services offered at Propel, including massage therapy and pelvic physiotherapy and everyone I have worked with is excellent. The staff at Propel genuinely care about their clients and seek a holistic approach to recovery. I recommend the clinic and their services to everyone I know who is seeking treatment for injuries and pain. Thank you, Propel!
