The custom-catered home yoga practices designed by Jessica Cowan-Dewar help ground me by tempering my flight of thoughts, and aid in the relaxation of muscles that are tight from involuntary tensing. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and one of my main triggers has always been health-related concerns – these times during a pandemic are therefore extra challenging for me in terms of managing anxiety.
My current home yoga practices include morning and evening exercises that vary in length from 10 to 30 minutes each. Over the course of the last year since I started yoga therapy with Jessica, my practice has evolved as she has shared many varied breathing and movement techniques designed to address any new chief complaints or concerns I convey; whether they be related to my anxiety, chronic back pain, or random aches and pains elsewhere in the body. My chief concern as of late has been the near-constant “fight or flight” state I get into which makes me very jumpy and which results in dreadful insomnia; a miserable combination that can affect every hour of the day and night. I’ve been able to repeatedly break free from these awful cycles using new breathing techniques shared by Jessica, which has led to remarkably better nights and in turn much better days.
I am very grateful to Jessica for her knowledge, expertise and compassionate demeanour. I have experienced first-hand the profound benefits her custom-catered practices can yield and highly recommend the yoga therapy she offers.
