BODY WEIGHT SUPPORT TREADMILL TRAINING
At Propel Physiotherapy we incorporate cutting edge technology to meet the needs of our neurological clientele. We use body weight support treadmill training (BWSTT) protocols that are evidence based and tailored for each client, maximizing their rehabilitation, helping them to achieve their goals.
Body weight support treadmill training gives the potential for appropriate posture, reduces weight bearing, eliminates concerns for balance, and facilitates the training of coordinated lower extremity movement.
We know the reciprocal nature of walking is important. Using skilled facilitation coupled with varying the speed and amount of support, we are able to tap into the Central Pattern Generator (CPG) and recreate reciprocal walking.
THE LITEGAIT® BODY WEIGHT SUPPORT SYSTEM
The LiteGait® Body weight support system is a gait training device that allows us to control weight bearing, posture, and balance over a treadmill or over ground. It creates an ideal environment for treating clients with a range of impairments and functional levels – evidence suggests that body weight support treadmill training can be an effective way to improve the quality of walking after brain and spinal cord injury.
The LiteGait® allows us to adjust the amount of support required for walking – overground or on the treadmill. It is also a great way to tap into the automatic systems of walking that are compromised in some neurological and orthopedic conditions. The harness we use is designed to allow unilateral or bilateral support for the progression of the weight bearing load from non to full weight bearing.
OTHER MOBILITY DEVICES
We also use the LiteGait in conjunction with other advanced technology devices such as the Keeogo robotic assisted walking device, Bioness and Odstock foot drop stimulators and most types of AFO’s and foot ups.
Our experienced clinicians have experience working with a variety of conditions including: spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, post-surgical (total knee and hip replacements) and a range of complex orthopedic injuries.

After a traumatic injury I was referred to Amanda at Propel for physiotherapy. Amanda is amazing and I attribute the progress I have made thus far to her. Through her I’ve also been referred to other services offered at Propel, including massage therapy and pelvic physiotherapy and everyone I have worked with is excellent. The staff at Propel genuinely care about their clients and seek a holistic approach to recovery. I recommend the clinic and their services to everyone I know who is seeking treatment for injuries and pain. Thank you, Propel!
