Ana Gollega

Director of Occupational Therapy Services

Ana Gollega is an occupational therapist with 32 years of experience. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings in public and private hospitals and in community rehabilitation in the private and non-profit sectors in Canada and Brazil.

She is passionate about upper extremity and neurorehabilitation and has extensive experience treating individuals of all ages who have suffered a traumatic or acquired brain injury or orthopedic trauma. Ana focuses her client-centered practice on improving independence and quality of life for her clientele.

Ana practices in both English and Portuguese.

Education & Training

Ana graduated with a Master’s in Anatomy and a Bachelor in Science of Occupational Therapy with a specialization in hand therapy from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy, the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists and a member of Canadian Society of Hand Therapists.

Ana also has years of experience in education and research. She taught Anatomy and Kinesiology in health-related programs in the Universities in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was an educator at the Hand Therapy Specialization program at Medical School of the University of Sao Paulo.

She has presented at conferences in Canada and other countries on topics related to upper extremity and neurorehabilitation. Ana has also published articles in the area of upper extremity rehabilitation and severe brain injury and led the development of a new assessment measure for the Disorder of Consciousness called Comprehensive Assessment Measure for Minimally Consciousness Individuals – CAMMRI.

Hand Therapy |Stroke Rehabilitation at Propel Physiotherapy

Decreased or affected hand function post stroke is a common issue – some more severe than others. Some people can present with high tone in certain muscle groups (in this case, wrist flexors, and finger extensors) to a point where it holds the hand in a really uncomfortable position.

Passions & Pursuits

Ana was a dancer before started her career as an OT. She practiced various styles from ballet, jazz and contemporary to flamenco.

She is passionate about body movement and stays active exploring yoga, weight training and ballroom dancing.

Her main priority outside work is to spend good quality time with her family and friends and relax by enjoying a nice movie with her dogs beside her.
