OUR HISTORY
Company founder, Kyle Whaley grew up on an 11-acre farm just outside of Kingston, Ontario. That is where he cultivated his love of activities like skiing, boating swimming, biking and hiking. It was during these formative years that his own sports injuries exposed him to physical therapy and cemented his desire to work in the field.
He began the physiotherapy program at UofT in 1999 with a strong desire to work in strength and conditioning with an active population including athletes from a variety of sports. However, a placement at Toronto Rehab Lyndhurst Centre where he got the chance to work with people with brain and spinal cord injuries and an incredible mentor changed the trajectory of his career.
Over the next 15 years, he honed his skills working with people recovering from stroke, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and living with conditions like MS and Parkinson’s. His passion and commitment to helping people move forward with their recovery, often in the face of huge obstacles, inspired Kyle to launch Propel Physiotherapy’s Etobicoke location in January 2016.
In 2019, Kyle brought on partner Hoong Phang. Years earlier, as a Masters student at McMaster University conducting research on barriers to physical activity for people living with spinal cord injuries, Hoong realized he could make a bigger impact working directly in therapy.
He began his career as a physiotherapy resident under Kyle’s mentorship at Balance Physiotherapy West where he worked his way up to clinic manager. He continued in this managerial role when Kyle started Propel Physiotherapy and was tasked with developing the orthopedic side of the business.
Together, they have expanded the company to Pickering and Peterborough — providing in-clinic, mobile and virtual services — becoming Southern Ontario’s leading treatment centre for catastrophic neurological injuries and complex orthopedic injuries.

We are filled with immense gratitude for the community we have built together over the past decade. In 2026, we have reached a significant milestone—it marks Propel Physiotherapy’s 10th Anniversary.
A decade ago, we opened the doors of our first clinic in Etobicoke. Our mission was simple: to help people move better and live life to the fullest. Today, we are humbled by the thousands of inspiring stories of resilience we have been privileged to witness.
From clients regaining their ability to walk and play music after a stroke to others triumphantly returning to horseback riding or conquering challenging hikes, your progress has been the most powerful driver of our own growth.
This January, as we reflect on both endings and beginnings, we recognize that meaningful change isn’t about grand, sweeping resolutions. It’s built on the accumulation of informed choices, consistent effort, and compassionate support. True momentum is found in understanding the science of your body, setting achievable goals, and celebrating every small victory along the way.
As we step into this landmark year, our commitment is stronger than ever. We are dedicated to providing you with evidence-based strategies that work with your life, personalized, collaborative care that respects your unique journey, and a supportive community where you can find connection and encouragement.
We are here to be your partners in building lasting strength, resilience, and joy in movement.
Here’s to another 10 years of continued progress, celebrated victories, and shared momentum.
