Registered Physiotherapist

David Friesen is focused on developing innovative and individualized programs to rehabilitate people who have sustained a neurological injury, including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, as well as complex orthopedic injuries. At Propel, he pursues his passion for helping people work towards their full potential, no matter their limitations or backgrounds. The capacity for recovery following a neurological injury is his driving force.
David has a real gift for motivating clients who have suffered neurological injury to try new activities. This can be a particularly daunting prospect, especially if they have recently been in the safety of the hospital. By creating meaningful and lasting connections with his clients, David is able to encourage his clients just enough that they become willing to push themselves to a new level and complete or achieve a new task.

Education & Training

David volunteered for the MacWheelers exercise program for people with disabilities during his kinesiology undergraduate degree at McMaster. It was here that he first discovered that you can truly change someone’s life through therapy. Participating in the program convinced him to pursue a masters of physical therapy at the University of Toronto. He still remains and active member of the program and a clinical instructor.
David is a member in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. He consistently expands his professional development by attending educational sessions and courses, including the Bobath Concept – The Study of Human Movement, APTEI – Acupuncture and Dry Needling, Manual Therapy – Level 1, The Chedoke-McMaster Stroke Assessment course, and Basic Sport Physiotherapy Taping.

Passions & Pursuits

David practices what he preaches, so it is no surprise that he is a passionate travel and sports enthusiast. He starts most days working up a sweat at the gym or pounding the pavement of Toronto’s streets. He also enjoys outdoor activities like biking, trekking, camping and canoeing.
Most recently, he took a 6-month journey through Asian and India where he enjoyed several of these activities, in addition to enjoying delicious healthy foods and soaking up the local culture and traditions.
