WHAT IS THAI MASSAGE?

Thai massage is an ancient healing therapy developed in Thailand for over 2,500 years ago. It uses principles that harmonize and balance the flow of energy throughout the body. A branch of Thai medicine, Thai massage is slow and rhythmic.

Shivago Komarbhaccha, an Ayurvedic doctor and celebrated Yogi has been attributed as the founding father of Thai massage. Shivago shared his teachings with the Bhuddist order of monks which came to be known as traditional Thai medical massage. It is influenced by both Indian Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese medicine.

Traditional Thai massage, called Nuat Phaen Boran in Thailand means ‘healing with the hands’. This therapeutic style of massage is performed on a large mat or massage table wearing loose comfortable clothing. No oils or lotions are used.

The practice of Thai massage works on the Sen, or energy lines to keep the body in healthy balance. It consists of a series of interactive flowing movements that blends rhythmic pressing and/or stretching, meditative gentle rocking, reflexology, yoga postures and breath work along these lines to help the body maintain a sense of well being.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THAI MASSAGE

Thai massage techniques embrace the four states of mind: loving kindness, compassion, joy and balance. Also known as ‘passive yoga’, Thai Massage is an ancient healing therapy with profound benefits, including:

  • Increased joint mobility
  • Enhance recovery and performance
  • Greater mind and body awareness
  • Improved breathing patterns
  • Increased mental clarity and energy flow
  • Stress relief and relaxation

THAI MASSAGE VS OTHER MASSAGE

During a Swedish or deep-tissue massage, the client lies passively on a treatment table or chair, usually unclothed, while the massage therapist applies varying levels of pressure to the muscles and joints of the body.

Thai massage is performed on a large mat or massage table wearing loose comfortable clothing that allows for movement. No oils or lotions are used. The practitioner moves in tandem with the client to apply passive or dynamic yoga stretching. It consists of a series of interactive flowing movements that blends rhythmic pressing and/or stretching, meditative gentle rocking, yoga postures, breath work and meditation.

WHO SHOULD GET THAI MASSAGE?

Thai Massage is seen as a practical application of the Buddhist principle of ‘Metta’; love and compassion. This natural therapy can offer everyone a stimulating and relaxing experience.

Do not hesitate, this is the place to go! Very competent and nice practicians, physiotherapy (with Claire) and Massage Therapy (with Bob) were very helpful for my back pain. Everything is a 5 star rating from reception, to service. I recommend.

– So I.

I booked an appointment with Propel the moment it opened following the Covid shutdown. Having been there once previously, I had an idea of what to expect but this was pre-Covid. The experience I had from the staff here was amazing, safety was the number 1 priority and all protocols were followed without fail during my visits.
